NANOSCIENCE & NANOTECHNOLOGY IN CURRENT EDUCATION: AN EMERGING INTERDISCIPLINARY PROPOSAL POST-COVID-19

Resumen

Recent studies mention that nanoscience & nanotechnology will be part of the emerging technologies that will be strengthened in this 21st century due to their enormous potential to be used for education purposes, technological innovation, and scientific research. The objective of the present work is to propose the importance of nanoscience and nanotechnology as an emerging interdisciplinary science post-covid-19 in current education. Scientific information was collected from different databases on nanoscience and nanotechnology and their contribution to education before and during the pandemic. Likewise, emphasis was placed on the teaching of nanoscience and nanotechnology as an interdiscipline and how, with its multidisciplinary technological applications, a new paradigm would be implemented in the teaching of scientific knowledge and technological innovation, which has been widely used to face COVID-19. In this way, its teaching would generate scientific skills in students to discern multiple possibilities for discussion on the role of current education, becoming a portal to learn, understand and link nanotechnology. Nanoscience and nanotechnology have been widely employed to address COVID-19. Thus, a broader discussion arises on the need to implement diverse methods in teaching, ensuring student learning and the development of educational content that would provide an appropriate context for research, innovation, and application in education. In conclusion, a call is made to institutions to implement the teaching of nanoscience and nanotechnology in basic, and higher education, as generators of new scientific skills in students and improvement in teacher training, due to the role it will take in the post-COVID-19 stage.
