Multinormativity and Legal Pluralism: Communicating Vessels

Resumen
In this article I examine Thomas Duve´s objections to legal pluralism and his proposal to base legal history in an approach he labels multinormativity. Then I criticize this alternative and review the twenty-four definitions of legal pluralism put forward by several scholars. Such a diversity of definitions puts into question the heuristic value of the approach and hinders the inquiry of the complexities of legal and jurisdictional diversity along history. To overcome this conceptual quagmire, a dialogical and recursive reading of multinormativity and legal pluralism is necessary.
