Resumen
In this quantitative, exploratory, and correlational study, the objective was to determine the relationship between school motivation (intrinsic and extrinsic) and academic performance in the Communication course. The sample consisted of 366 fifth-grade students from public schools in the district of Comas, 181 males (49.5%) and 185 females (50.5%), with an average age of 10.3 years. A Likert-type survey composed of two dimensions and 28 items was used, which was validated through expert judgment; furthermore, it obtained a reliability coefficient of α =0.79. The data were processed using IBM SPSS v.25 software. The results indicated that 55.7% of the students exhibited high levels of academic performance, and intrinsic motivation (Mean=4.11) surpassed extrinsic motivation (Mean=3.11). However, only a weak correlation was found between academic performance and the intrinsic dimension (rho=0.288), while no significant values were found between the two dimensions of school motivation.
