Resumen
The aims of this study were to estimate the morphometric measurements, characterize, and estimate the phenotypic correlations of Texel × Criollo (¾-¼) crossbred ewes. A total of 130 randomly selected ewes were selected and grouped into three age groups (4, 6, and 8 teeth). Comparisons of means of the morphometric measurements, analysis of zoometric indices, and evaluation of phenotypic correlations were performed. Most of the morphometric measurements of the four-tooth ewes (18-24 months), including body weight, reached the values of the six-tooth (24-36 months) and eight-tooth (36-48 months) age groups, except for leg diameter and femur length. Furthermore, most of the morphometric measurements presented high homogeneity coefficients. The estimated zoometric indices characterized these animals as brevilinear, convexilinear, and suitable for meat production. There was 30.77% of significant phenotypic correlations, of which 29.67% were positive, demonstrating moderate harmony in the growth of phenotypic traits. In conclusion, Texel × Criollo crossbred sheep achieved meat conformation at 18-24 months of age, although with moderate harmony in the total animals. © Los autores.
