Resumen
In this article, the first Peruvian reception of German idealism will be analyzed, through a handful of philosophical textbooks by Sebastián Lorente (1813–1884) and Bartolomé Herrera (1808–1864). The reception of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel’s thought will be especially studied, revealing a paradoxical metaphysical rebuttal and an indirect logical appraisal, that reflect aspects frequently unseen in his thought. Moreover, allegations about chronological gaps and mimeticisms regarding the reception of contemporary Western philosophy in Lorente and Herrera and in pre-20th Century Peruvian philosophical thinking in general, will be critically examined.
