Resumen
Avian tuberculosis in psittacines is primarily caused by Mycobacterium avium. The aim of this study was to determine the presence of M. avium in two zoos in Metropolitan Lima. Seventy-five cloacal swab samples were obtained from birds of the Psittacidae family and processed using real-time PCR (qPCR). Four samples (5.33%) were positive, corresponding to birds of the genera Ara sp. (1), Amazona sp. (2), and Aratinga sp. (1). It is concluded that the psittacine birds were exposed to M. avium. © Los autores.
