Modeling, Simulation and Control of Cherry Tomato Cultivation in a Protected Environment Using Fuzzy Logic

Pacco H.C. · Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems (2026) · DOI: 10.1007/978-3-032-00329-4_39

Resumen

This research project aimed to model, simulate, and control irrigation timing in a cherry tomato cultivation system using fuzzy logic programming using LabVIEW software, which facilitates graphical programming of the irrigation system’s operation. The system input variables were temperature in degrees Celsius and humidity in percentage, and the output variable, based on the cultivation system’s input variables, was the irrigation time (minutes). A literature review was conducted to obtain information on all the characteristics of cherry tomato cultivation, including its beneficial composition for health in terms of its content of vitamins, minerals, and other essential compounds. Fuzzy logic was then applied to the variables, creating the corresponding rules and implementing the testing system according to the input and output variables used. Then, graphical programming was implemented in LabVIEW software, demonstrating the program’s effectiveness in modeling, simulating, and controlling cherry tomato cultivation systems. Different cases have been simulated in which the variability of the values in each of the input variables, temperature and humidity in the irrigation system in the cherry tomato crop is varied to obtain as a result the irrigation time without wasting irrigation water allowing its corresponding savings. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2026.
