MITIGATING SPOOFING ATTACKS IN METEOROLOGICAL NANOSATELLITE TELEMETRY: A ROS-GAZEBO SIMULATION APPROACH

Venturi Calero D.E.; Quintana Quispe F.R.; Roman-Gonzalez A. · Proceedings of the International Astronautical Congress, IAC (2025) · DOI: 10.52202/083082-0120

Resumen

The growing reliance on nanosatellites for meteorological observation and national monitoring highlights the need for secure and resilient telemetry systems. However, these systems are vulnerable to spoofing attacks, which can manipulate transmitted data, compromise mission integrity, and even affect orbital stability. This study analyzes the impact of spoofing on meteorological nanosatellite telemetry by simulating attack scenarios in the ROS-Gazebo environment. The simulation demonstrates how falsified signals can alter critical parameters such as health status, orbital velocity, and sensor readings, generating inconsistent meteorological data and impacting operations. To counter these threats, the effectiveness of anomaly detection techniques and cryptographic integrity mechanisms is evaluated, validating their ability to mitigate spoofing attempts. The results contribute to strengthening satellite communication networks, ensuring the reliability of space-based meteorological data, and improving cybersecurity strategies for small satellite operations.
