Mirage with the viceregal temple, symbol of Christian tradition in Ayacucho

Gutiérrez-Gómez E.; Auccatoma-Tinco R.; Quispe-Rodríguez J.; Paucarchuco-Moscoso K.M. · Encuentros (Maracaibo) (2025) · DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.15347143

Resumen

The objective of the article is to analyze the essence of the colonial heritage in a situation of abandonment, independently of the positive image that is promoted locally, nationally and internationally as a symbol of attraction of visitors and economic support for the Ayacucho region. Participant observation allows us to interweave the real situation between the administrators of the temples, volunteers, parishioners and holidays with the visitors that generate economic income for the region. In conclusion, the economic income generated by the promotion of the 33 temples is a mirage that does not contribute to the conservation and maintenance of the colonial material heritage. Those responsible for the church make strenuous efforts to capture economic income and thus maintain and restore the viceregal temples in an artisanal way.
