Methodology for the Design Solar Thermal Station: Case Study of 150 MW for Arequipa

Arias Velasquez R.M. · IEEE Andescon, ANDESCON 2024 - Proceedings (2024) · DOI: 10.1109/andescon61840.2024.10755776

Resumen

This paper proposed a novel methodology for de-signing a 150MW solar park in Arequipa, connected to the 500 k V San Jose substation. It incorporates 7399 HE54 heliostats and a semi-cylindrical cavity reactor atop a tower, with a molten salt (MS) storage system ensuring 7.5 hours of electricity production during low solar radiation. The plant employs MS composed by 55 % of sodium nitrate called NaNO3 and the quantity of 45 % potassium nitrate called KNO3 as the working element, boasting two systems: process 1 with integrated parabolic trough solar thermal collectors, and process 2 with integrated heliostat field solar thermal systems. Energy and exergetic efficiencies for both systems increase with sunlight intensity but remain unaffected by ambient temperature (AT) variations.
