Resumen
The integration of the metaverse into virtual tourism has emerged as a pivotal subject within the tourism industry, largely due to its capacity to transform the user experience. Notwithstanding the advancements in the incorporation of immersive technologies, there are deficiencies in the existing research, which substantiates the necessity for a comprehensive and systematic literature review. The aim of this study is to examine the trends in the adoption of the metaverse in virtual tourism. The review is based on the PRISMA-2020 methodology. The results demonstrate that Asia and Europe are the regions with the highest number of studies, with countries such as Taiwan, China and South Korea representing a significant presence. Among the adopted technologies, augmented reality and virtual reality have emerged as key drivers of transformation in the tourist experience. Variables such as intention to use, perceived usefulness and perceived enjoyment are pivotal in understanding the acceptance of these technologies and highlight geographical and theoretical gaps that offer promising avenues for future research.
