Resumen
Peru is going through a socio-political and insecurity crisis, marked by low presidential approval, which makes it pertinent to examine metaphorical language as a strategic tool in political discourse to construct meanings and legitimize power. The main objective of this study is to analyze the persuasive functions of the metaphors used by ex-president Dina Boluarte in her statements on the crime crisis, seeking to unravel how they shape the representation of the conflict, legitimize government action and shift responsibilities. The research adopts a qualitative and descriptive approach, focusing on the semantic-cognitive analysis of a corpus of three public speeches by Boluarte. The analysis identifies the strategic use of orientational (el progreso es avanzar), ontological (personifications and reifications of abstract concepts) and structural metaphors (la lucha es una guerra o una edificación). It is concluded that metaphors are key cognitive and ideological instruments that shape reality, reinforce government legitimacy and influence public opinion in contexts of crisis. © Los autores.
