Resumen
Toponyms are lexical elements that refer to the names of geographical spaces. They are not only part of the linguistic heritage of communities, but also of their cultural heritage. Therefore, their registration is relevant to know which linguistic and cultural mechanisms are involved in the assignment of place names. This paper proposes a semantic analysis of the metaphorical and metonymic processes in the formation of Quechua-affiliated toponyms in the district of Singa, which belongs to the province of Huamalíes, in Huánuco. To do so, a descriptive methodology is used. The corpus was collected from the collection of toponyms found in geographical maps and in interviews conducted with the inhabitants of Singa. After carrying out the etymological and semantic analysis, it was concluded that the motivations in the formation of these toponyms are, for the most part, real and the main conceptual procedure is metonymy. © Los autores.
