Resumen
In the rural and Indigenous communities of the Valle de los ríos Apurímac, Ene y Mantaro (VRAEM, Ayacucho, Perú), three species of stingless bees used in meliponiculture are known: Melipona eburnea Friese, 1900, Melipona grandis Guérin-Méneville, 1844, and Tetragonisca angustula (Latreille, 1811). In these communities, meliponiculture is a relatively common practice, carried out mainly for local consumption. It was found that these communities face challenges in developing bee cultivation, with the main limitations being the reproduction of hives and the difficulty of finding buyers for the honey produced by stingless bees. © Los autores.
