Resumen
Chronic pain affects not only a person’s biopsychosocial functioning but also the existential domain. For this reason, experiencing meaning in life can play a protective role in the well-being of chronic pain patients. The aim of the present study was to explore the relationship between the impact of fibromyalgia and subjective well-being, with meaning in life as a mediator variable. A questionnaire was administered to 402 women with fibromyalgia to obtain information on the impact of the disease, meaning in life, and subjective well-being. Descriptive and inferential analyses were performed using SPSS. The results indicated that relationship was the highest-scoring source of meaning in life. Furthermore, a significant indirect effect of the impact of fibromyalgia on subjective well-being was found through meaning in life. It is concluded that meaning in life may partially mediate the effect of the impact of fibromyalgia on subjective well-being.
