Mapping the Global Landscape of Aerospace Conferences: A Focus on Latin American Engagement and Outreach

Vargas-Cuentas N.I.; Roman-Gonzalez A. · Proceedings of the International Astronautical Congress, IAC (2025) · DOI: 10.52202/083097-0134

Resumen

The geographic distribution of aerospace conferences reveals a strong concentration in North America, Europe, and select regions in Asia, while Latin America remains significantly underrepresented. This disparity limits opportunities for regional professionals, students, and the general public to engage with cutting-edge space research and industry developments. The lack of accessible aerospace events in Latin America contributes to lower participation in global space dialogues, restricting knowledge exchange, networking, and career advancement within the region. This study proposes a comprehensive geospatial analysis of aerospace conferences worldwide, with a particular focus on Latin America. By mapping existing events and evaluating their accessibility, themes, and audience reach, we identify critical gaps in regional participation. Furthermore, we explore strategies for expanding aerospace outreach and engagement in Latin America, including decentralized conference models, hybrid formats, and strategic partnerships with international organizations. Expected results include a detailed visualization of conference distribution patterns, identification of barriers to participation in Latin America, and actionable recommendations for increasing regional representation. This work aims to inform policy makers, academic institutions, and industry leaders on the importance of fostering a more inclusive and globally representative aerospace community. Our findings will serve as a foundation for future initiatives designed to democratize access to space-related knowledge and professional opportunities across Latin America and beyond. Copyright
