Thus, the objective is to establish the relationship between the prevalence of malocclusions and the need for orthodontic treatment in 15-year-old schoolchildren in the district of Chachapoyas-Peru. The study is a cross-sectional correlational descriptive study, carried out in 138 schoolchildren to whom a data collection form was applied with the Index of Need for Orthodontic Treatment that contemplates two aspects: Dental health and aesthetics. As a result, a prevalence of class I malocclusion of 47.8%, class II 21% and class III 20.3% was obtained. The Need for Orthodontic Treatment index shows that 43.5% need treatment (Grade 4), and only 15.9% have a great need (Grade 5). When evaluating the aesthetic component, 81.2% considered the treatment little or not necessary and 5.1% required. In conclusion, a statistically significant relationship was found between malocclusions and the need for orthodontic treatment in the oral health componen.
