Low-frequency noise vs dba measurements after 80 years: Does not is time to retire the DBA?

Resumen
It is well known among acousticians that the dBA was defined just to measure low levels signals up to 55 dB, and the old sound level meters included two selectors: one for sound pressure and other for choosing de right frequency weighting. During the years it became easier just to measure using the dBA curve only, but this was the worse decision because it is impossible to register the energy into the lower frequencies band. It was necessary to create a few additional noise descriptors in order to characterize the presence of low-frequency energy, that not always the people use them. So much discussion are around if it is or not useful the dBA for Soundscape measurements, because it does not consider the low-frequency noise level of the acoustic environment, becoming in large uncertainties. Since the begging of its inception in early'30, it is possible to find a lot of documents which explain the under estimation in the lowers frequencies bands because of measurements using the "A" weighting. For more than 80 years the laws against noise problems have been enforced us “to feel the noise in dBA levels”, that it is not true because our body feels the whole flat frequency bandwidth, it is almost similar if it would exists a law indicating that “you have to see the light spectrum using the dBA weighting”, might us could see the real colors of the environment to surround us? This Paper explore some issues about the low-frequency noise levels in cities and inside homes and offices, because it is necessary to create a different paradigm for noise measurement, in order “to retire” the dBA noise descriptor. © "Advances in Acoustics, Noise and Vibration - 2021" Proceedings of the 27th International Congress on Sound and Vibration, ICSV 2021.
