Lived Experiences and Mathematical Concepts: Ethnomathematics in the Asháninca Community; [Vivências e conceitos matemáticos: etnomatemática na comunidade asháninca]

Salvatierra-Melgar Á. · Revista Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales, Ninez y Juventud (2026) · DOI: 10.11600/rlcsnj.24.2.7622

Resumen

The limited recognition of mathematical concepts within Indigenous communities motivated me to focus on and relate their social experiences from an ethnomathematical perspective. To this end, I collected testimonies from three leaders, male and female artisans, male and female farmers, male and female healers, as well as children and adults, in all cases through semi-structured interviews. The systematization of the information—through triangulation and semantic networks characteristic of descriptive-exploratory phenomenological qualitative research—revealed the presence of mathematical knowledge applied empirically and anthropometrically in handicrafts, games, rites, and ceremonies. I also identified principles of triangulation in construction practices and in communal governance for income distribution. I concluded that mathematical knowledge is articulated with daily life, oral expressions, and artisanal and ceremonial practices, thereby strengthening intercultural education and the preservation of cultural heritage. © This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.
