Resumen
The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between lifestyles and body mass index in students at the National University of Callao, Peru, in the year 2023. The study was developed under the quantitative approach, non-experimental correlational design, whose sample was 382 students from the University of Callao, Professional School of Physical Education, from academic cycles I to VII. The instruments used were the lifestyle questionnaire and anthropometric measurement of height and body weight. The findings indicate that, regarding the lifestyle variable, 28.8% of the students evaluated were at the excellent level, 46.1% at the average level and 30.1% at the excellent level. Regarding the body mass index, a higher level of overweight, grade I obesity and grade II obesity prevailed in women with 23.6%, 2.1% and 1.8% respectively. The low significant direct relationship between lifestyle and body mass index in the students analyzed is specified. It is concluded that the implementation of specific programs and the promo-tion of continuing education in these aspects emerge as fundamental measures to promote healthy lifestyles in the university environ-ment. These actions could translate into a general improvement in the physical and mental well-being of university students, thus strengthening their quality of life.
