Resumen
DRESS syndrome (drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms) is characterized by a constellation of signs and symptoms that manifest as a severe adverse reaction to certain medications. Leflunomide is a first-line immunomodulatory drug for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Case report: This drug is not commonly associated with DRESS syndrome; therefore, we report the case of a 38-year-old woman with active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), who was admitted to the emergency department with fever, an acute generalized skin rash, and leukocytosis. The patient met the RegiSCAR criteria for probable leflunomide-associated DRESS syndrome, and drug hypersensitivity was confirmed by skin biopsy. © Article published by the Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana of Universidad Ricardo Palma.
