Resumen
Inefficient inventory management is one of the main challenges for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across various sectors. The lack of effective tools and methodologies in warehouse operations exacerbates this issue, impacting organizational performance. This systematic review aims to study the effectiveness of Lean Warehousing implementation in optimizing inventory management in SMEs. To achieve this, an exhaustive literature review was conducted using the PICOC components and the PRISMA protocol, which allowed the selection of 23 open-access articles and conference papers available on the Scopus platform. The results indicate that the fundamental causes of inefficiency in inventory management were effectively addressed through key tools such as 5S, ABC, Just in Time (JIT), and work standardization. The effectiveness of these tools was primarily validated through simulations using Arena software over 3-month interventions, showing significant improvements in key performance indicators (KPIs). In conclusion, the implementation of Lean Warehousing has proven to be an effective strategy for mitigating operational problems in SMEs. The importance of continuous monitoring is highlighted to ensure optimal long-term results. Furthermore, it is suggested that future research integrate these tools with Industry 4.0 technologies, which could open new opportunities to enhance operational performance and business competitiveness.
