Lean manufacturing and supply chain: towards excellence in the manufacturing industry

Castro-Rejas E.M.; Chanca-Trillo C.A.; Cuba-Cornejo C.L. · Aibi, Revista de Investigacion Administracion e Ingenierias (2025) · DOI: 10.15649/2346030x.5804

Resumen

Supply chain optimization represents a determining factor for increasing competitiveness in the manufacturing sector. Within this framework, the Lean Manufacturing (LM) approach has been recognized as an appropriate strategy for minimizing waste, increasing productivity, and optimizing supplier management. This Systematic Literature Review (SLR) aimed to analyze the influence of LM on supply chain efficiency in manufacturing companies. The search was conducted primarily in the Scopus database, applying the PIOCT methodology to define inclusion and exclusion criteria, and the PRISMA model guidelines during the selection process. Of 262 articles identified, 60 were analyzed in depth. The results showed that the main impacts of LM are concentrated on resource optimization, cycle time minimization, and increased productivity, with efficiency and productivity being the most representative indicators of success. Limitations associated with the methodological design and the lack of strategic integration in the adoption of Lean tools were also identified. It is concluded that LM positively impacts supply chain performance and that its integration with technologies such as Industry 4.0 can enhance adaptability and sustainability in manufacturing processes.
