Palabras clave: Fermín Tangüis, Manuel Piqueras, fundición Vittorio Lera, Sociedad Nacional Agraria, monumentos, neoperuano, siglo XX AbstractThis article examines the equestrian statue of Fermín Tangüis (1932–1951), the centerpiece of the Memorial to Don Fermín Tangüis project erected in the Parque de la Reserva for the centennial of the agricultural entrepreneur’s birth. It is divided into two sections: the first focuses on the civic and scientific initiative of the National Agricultural Society to erect said memorial; the second covers the artistic and symbolic narrative proposed by Piqueras. The significance of the depiction of Tangüis as abarefoot chalán (traditional Peruvian horseman) mounted on a Peruvian Paso horse is examined. This depiction is a reinterpretation of the sketch that the sculptor had originally prepared for the monument to Ricardo Palma (1933–1935).
