AbstractThis article examines different modes of postmortem photography of children that existed in Peru during the 19th century, highlighting the case of the angelito (little angel), a modality that is derived from the angelito ritual, a particular wake that belongs to the popular Catholicism that existed in various Ibero-American countries. After the iconographic analysis, the results show that the angelito mode does not satisfy the requirements of the other cosmopolitan forms, therefore, it should be recognized as a proper modality in itself.
