Resumen
The purpose of this paper is to explore the connection between two fundamental works of Peruvian viceregal historiography: la Primera parte de la Crónica del Perú by Pedro Cieza de León and the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega’s Comentarios Reales de los Incas. Through a brief analysis of their narrative perspectives, conceptions of history, and modes of representing the SpanishIndigenous encounter, the processes of memory construction surrounding the conquest of Peru and the early years of the viceroyalty are examined. The focus is particularly on Inca Garcilaso’s incorporation and reinterpretation of the Spanish chronicles, which he represents and embodies from his dual cultural background. This work aims to highlight the dialogic nature of both works and the emergence of a mestizo culture within the discursive space of the Peruvian viceroyalty.
