Resumen
Background: This research explores the administration of L-arginine and its impact on the hemodynamic stability of critically ill patients with COVID-19 at the Dos de Mayo National Hospital. The objective is to evaluate how L-arginine affects hemodynamic parameters, crucial for recovery in intensive care. Methods: 85 critically ill patients were included, who received L-arginine supplementation for five days. Hemodynamic indicators of macro and microcirculation were measured, such as mean arterial pressure, heart rate, cardiac output, serum lactate and venous oxygen saturation. The data were analyzed using nonparametric statistical tests. Results: The parameters evaluated showed a slight but significant decrease in blood pressure, heart rate and serum lactate, remaining within normal ranges. The stability in venous saturation suggests that L-arginine does not negatively affect tissue oxygenation. Conclusions: L-arginine was shown to be safe in the hemodynamic management of critically ill patients with COVID-19, without causing instability in the 5 days of intervention. It is useful in the immunonutrition of critically ill patients, which optimizes perfusion and oxygen metabolism.
