John Henry Newman’s Apologia as a Model of Personal Worldview: A Reading from Otto Muck SJ

Lozano C.G. · Quien (2026) · DOI: 10.69873/aep.i23.344

Resumen

This paper attempts to interpret the Apologia pro vita sua by the English cardinal John Henry Newman as a model of a reflective personal worldview, following the philosophy of Otto Muck SJ’s personal worldview. For Muck, a personal worldview, being implicit, is very diffi-cult to put into words, especially when it comes to its principles or core. Newman’s extraordinary introspection and sincerity allowed him, to a certain extent, to make his personal worldview explicit as a process of maturation in faith, from the evangelical stage to the Catholic stage, thus becoming a model for each person in their attempt to account for their personal worldview in the different circumstances of their life.
