Resumen
The aim of the study was to identify anaerobic bacteria isolated from compartment 1 of the digestive tract of alpacas. Four isolates were obtained from the liquor (LC1) and nine from the compartment wall (PC1) of the digestive tracts. LC1 isolates were cultured on Brewer’s Anaerobic Agar (BA), and PC1 isolates on BA supplemented with L-cysteine. Anaerobic isolates were subjected to identification by microscopic observation and biochemical tests, followed by extraction of total bacterial DNA. Amplification was performed using primers 27F-1492R on the 16S rRNA gene and sequenced using the Sanger method with an ABI PRISM 3730XL DNA analyser. Bioinformatic analysis revealed that the strains corresponding to the species of LC1 were four Streptococcus equinus and of PC1 were nine Streptococcus vicugnae. In phylogenetic analysis, Streptococcus equinus strains formed a monophyletic clade with a Bootstrap value of 100 and Streptococcus vicugnae with 88. The strains revealed a strictly anaerobic nature, highlighting the complexity of the taxonomy of the Streptococcus genus and emphasizing the need for future research to clarify its taxonomic classification. © Los autores.
