Resumen

Reading comprehension occurs when individuals construct meaning through interaction with written text. This skill is fundamental for cognitive, educational, social, and professional development, making its analysis essential in contemporary educational research. The aim of this study was to describe the evolution of global scientific production on reading comprehension during the period 2013-2023. A quantitative approach was applied through a bibliometric analysis in the Scopus database, using the PRISMA method and documentary analysis techniques supported by reference management tools. A total of 8,913 documents were identified, with original articles being the most frequent (n=7,708). The United States and China led in publication volume, and a sustained increase was observed up to 2023, the year with the highest number of records. An increase in international collaboration among authors was also evident. The findings identify thematic trends, key authors and institutions, and emerging areas of research, providing a solid foundation for future studies and for the formulation of evidence-based educational policies.
