Resumen
The research focused on determining the impact of different inulin concentrations on egg production and internal and external quality. Three hundred 86-week-old Lohmann Brown laying hens were randomly assigned to three treatments, each with four replicates and 25 animals per replicate. The treatments were: T1, control diet (CD) without inulin; T2, CD supplemented with 0.25% inulin; and T3, CD supplemented with 0.50% inulin. All diets were formulated according to the nutritional requirements of the Lohmann line. Mash feed and water was available ad libitum. The experimental period lasted eight weeks: two for adaptation and six for evaluation. A completely randomized block design with subsampling was used, while the interaction effect of storage (0, 7, and 14 days) and inulin levels (0, 0.25, and 0.50%) on egg quality was analysed using a completely randomized design with a 3×3 factorial arrangement. Duncan’s test was used for mean comparisons. There was no interaction (p<0.05) between storage days and inulin levels on the variables studied. However, the use of 0.5% inulin increased the laying percentage, average egg weight, and economic return. It also influenced external (weight, specific gravity, surface area) and internal (albumen and yolk weight) quality. Storage reduced weight, surface area, yolk index, and Haugh units. It is concluded that the addition of inulin improves productive parameters and affects egg quality in older laying hens. © Los autores.
