Resumen
Recently, water splitting has emerged as a reliable process for producing clean energy through cost-effective, highly stable, and effective non-precious electrocatalysts. In this work, the MoS2/ZnO/g-C3N4 (MSZCN) ternary electrocatalyst with unique properties was synthesized using a hydrothermal method for HER and OER applications. MoS2 (MS), MoS2/g-C3N4 (MSCN), and MoS2/ZnO (MSZ) samples were also synthesized for comparison. All the prepared electrocatalysts were characterized successfully to explore their structural, elemental, and surface morphological properties by XRD, XPS, FESEM, TEM, and EDS mapping, respectively. The resultant MSZCN exhibits reliable electrocatalytic performance towards HER and OER in an alkaline medium, requiring overpotentials of −0.313 V for HER and 0.551 V for OER at 10 mAcm−2, respectively. These outcomes are mainly due to the interfacial interactions between the individual entities present in the MSZCN electrocatalyst. This work provides new insights into HER and OER by means of non-precious ternary electrocatalysts.
