Resumen

Intercultural sensitivity is a relevant competency in the education of health sciences students in culturally diverse contexts. Objective: To describe intercultural sensitivity and compare its dimensions according to sex, age group, and academic program among students of the Faculty of Medical Technology at a Peruvian public university in 2024. Methods: The study had a quantitative, cross-sectional, and comparative design. It included 265 students who met the eligibility criteria. The Intercultural Sensitivity Scale (ISS) and a sociodemographic questionnaire were administered. Inferential analysis was performed using the Mann-Whitney U test and the Kruskal-Wallis H test, with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The ISS showed adequate internal consistency, with Cronbach's alpha = 0.87 and McDonald's omega = 0.88. The Interaction Engagement and Interaction Attentiveness dimensions showed high levels, with mean scores of 3.74 and 3.60, respectively. The Respect for Cultural Differences, Interaction Confidence, and Interaction Enjoyment dimensions showed moderate levels, with mean scores of 3.12, 2.88, and 2.77, respectively. Significant differences according to sex were found in Interaction Confidence and Interaction Attentiveness, both with p = 0.001, with higher mean ranks among male students. No significant differences were identified according to age group or academic program. Conclusion: The students showed a favorable intercultural sensitivity profile, with differences according to sex in Interaction Confidence and Interaction Attentiveness. © Artículo publicado por la Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana de la Universidad Ricardo Palma.
