Integration of an IoT System for Monitoring the Thermal Comfort of a Barn with a Trombe Wall in the High Andean Areas

Villanueva J.A.; Rojas X.H.; Rojo C.C. · 2023 IEEE 13th Annual Computing and Communication Workshop and Conference, CCWC 2023 (2023) · DOI: 10.1109/ccwc57344.2023.10099104

Resumen

Livestock in the Andean highlands is one of the primary economic sources of the inhabitants who reside in areas far from centralized cities, which has recently been affected by climate change that has caused extreme cold in these areas, resulting in an increase in cattle mortality. Which various studies have sought a solution that allows the conservation of the adequate temperature for the animals in search of not causing heat stress or deaths from pneumonia. Since most cattle deaths are caused by pneumonia, barns were implemented to offer shelter to these animals that used to sleep outdoors; In addition to this, the use of Trombe walls was proposed that allow the passive storage of solar energy so that the heat storage can be distributed during the nights inside the barn. In search of knowing if the implementation of the Trombe wall improves for the conservation of heat in a barn, the implementation of a monitoring system that allows monitoring the state of the barn was proposed through a complete IoT system that, through a stable internet connection, sends the readings captured by temperature sensors to a database and this can be exposed in a Web page for the end user to observe and monitor the status of the animals inside the barn without the need to validate that the internal temperature is adequate.
