Resumen
The study addressed the issue of excess inventory in a food sector company, specifically in the production of pasteurized orange juice in 1-liter packaging. These excess generated significant economic losses, estimated at 5.04% of annual sales, due to the waste of perishable products. The research was based on the application of engineering tools such as Material Requirements Planning (MRP I) and the calculation of the optimal lot size through the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ), combined with time series techniques to improve demand forecasting accuracy. The main challenges included inefficiencies in production planning, lack of accurate demand forecasting, and excessive raw material purchases. The implementation of the proposed model reduced excess inventory to 5%, lowering obsolete inventory to 1.5%. These improvements, validated through simulation, enhanced operational efficiency indicators. The research contributed to the industrial sector by proposing an integrative model applicable to other food companies, promoting economic and operational sustainability, and laying the foundation for continuous optimization of inventory systems. Additionally, future research is encouraged to explore new strategies to integrate advanced inventory management tools in other industrial sectors.
