Resumen
This paper analyzes the institutional carbon footprint of a university in Lima Norte for 2023 and evaluates its role as a strategic tool to foster socio-environmental initiatives within the academic community. The assessment was conducted in accordance with ISO 14064-1, the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, and the guidelines of the Carbon Footprint Platform – Peru, ensuring the inclusion of both direct and indirect sources of emissions. Total emissions were estimated at 3,186.43 tCO2eq, with a per capita value of 0.609 tCO2eq. Commuting by students, faculty, and staff represented 88.46% of the total, underscoring the central role of transportation in the institution’s footprint and the urgent need for sustainable mobility policies. Based on these findings, strategies were proposed to address the main emission sources, highlighting sustainable mobility, the adoption of energy efficiency measures, and the strengthening of institutional environmental policy to guide comprehensive management, support accreditation processes, and reinforce socio-environmental commitment.
