Resumen
Introduction: In recent years, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has shown an increase both worldwide and in Peru. Beyond presenting metabolic complications, it is associated with other disorders that affect the general well-being, such as insomnia, characterized by the difficulty of falling or staying asleep. Its prevalence is higher in people with chronic diseases, like T2DM. For this reason, validation and reliability are needed for the applications of instruments to assess this sleep disorder. One of the instruments used to measure the severity of insomnia is the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI); however, there is little research on its reliability in adult patients diagnosed with T2DM, being until this year, a study made in Saudi Arabia. Objective: Evaluate the internal reliability of the insomnia severity index (ISI) on adults with type-2 diabetes mellitus. Materials and methods: An instrumental, cross-sectional study was carried out. The questionnaire was given to a hundred patients previously diagnosed with DM2 at a health center Level I - 4 in Lima, Perú. The internal reliability of the instrument was established by Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient test. Results: The overall internal score of the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient test was 0,871. Item’s correlations ranged from 0,284-0,782. Conclusion: Through the statistical test of Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient, the ISI demonstrated high internal consistency for the assessment of insomnia in adult patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
