Resumen
Innovation is a topic that has attracted academic interest since the last century. Currently, very few companies and/or employees do not know what innovation means. The objective of this research was to analyze the determinants of the performance of companies in the interior of Peru using the Lasso machine learning method. The robustness of the model was demonstrated since it complies with the assumptions required of a LOGIT model and at the same time it is free of decision biases. It was found that both innovation management and internal innovation had a significant and positive impact on performance; however, intellectual property had an inverse relationship with performance. In that sense, it is likely that entrepreneurs have internalized the importance of establishing a culture of innovation, as well as managing their technology. However, it is likely that they do not value investment in intellectual property given the idiosyncrasies of the country.
