Resumen
It is proposed to understand the informal economy in Peru as a factor in the increase in pollution levels, due to the regulatory difficulties involved in intervening in low-income sectors for environmental purposes. In this way, informality and poverty would result in a factor in the serious air crisis that the country is suffering, the most serious in South America, which, in turn, is a factor in increasing levels of morbidity and death in early childhood. To demonstrate this chain of factors, this research aimed to compare data on informality, increased polluting activity in the informal sector and determine a difference in air quality in early childhood in Metropolitan Lima between the periods 2002-2011 and 2012-2021, in the absence of important public policies until 2022 to reduce carbon levels. The results show that there was a significant difference in air pollution favorable to the air quality of early childhood in Metropolitan Lima, between the periods indicated, so, although we are still far from reaching the minimum requirements of the WHO, it is concluded that the informality factor is insufficient to understand the factoring of the phenomenon.
