Influence of polypropylene fiber on physical-mechanical properties in cold asphalt mix with 100% recycled pavement

Kevin Ernesto V.-S.; Melvin Otilio J.-M.; Germán S.-V. · Proceedings of the LACCEI international Multi-conference for Engineering, Education and Technology (2024) · DOI: 10.18687/laccei2024.1.1.1881

Resumen

The objective of this research is to determine the influence of polypropylene fiber on the physical-mechanical properties of a cold asphalt mixture with 100% recycled pavement. A pure experimental design was used to develop the thesis. The sampling technique used was not probabilistic due to expert judgment, and data collection was based on observation using the observation guide. Inferential statistics were applied for data analysis. The results showed a stability of 5.15 kN and a creep of 9.08 mm in the standard mixture, while in the mixtures with 0.25%, 0.30% and 0.35% of polypropylene fiber, 5.54 kN - 7.25 mm, 7.06 kN - 8.22 mm were obtained.. and 6.19 kN - 9.25 mm respectively. Regarding the percentage of voids, 3.65% was recorded in the standard mixture and 3.85%, 4.29% and 4.43% in the mixtures with 0.25%, 0.30% and 0.35% of polypropylene fiber. It is concluded that the polypropylene fiber has a significant influence on the physical-mechanical properties of the cold asphalt mix with 100% recycled asphalt pavement (RAP), demonstrating that the addition of 0.30% achieves better performance in the Marshall test.
