Resumen
The inclusion of intercultural aspects in the development and application of informatics tools has become an essential requirement for the digital inclusion of Indigenous peoples, enabling them to adopt technology without losing their ancestral customs. This study analyzes the influence of the intercultural approach on the design and applicability of an informatics tool for physical and psychological monitoring from the perspective of students belonging to the Awajún ethnic group in the Peruvian Amazon. The sample consisted of 122 students, including 51.6% women and 48.4% men, who completed a questionnaire comprising 14 dichotomous items, with Yes/No responses, to assess their perceptions of the intercultural approach (IAP) and the informatics tool (ITo). Data were analyzed using three Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) models: one model assessing the direct influence of IAP on ITo, and two additional mediation models including gender and age as mediating variables. The results indicated that IAP has a significant direct effect on ITo, explaining 52.1% of its variance. Gender showed a significant negative indirect effect on the relationship between IAP and ITo, reducing the explained variance to 40.0% and indicating that men evaluated ITo more positively. Age did not demonstrate a significant mediating effect and therefore did not alter the original SEM results. Students positively evaluated the inclusion of the intercultural approach in the informatics tool, supporting the observed positive effect. However, the influence of gender and its underlying determinants should be further examined, and the age range should be expanded to determine whether the absence of mediation persists.
