Influence of Andesitic Tuff Pozzolana on the Compressive Strength of a Mortar f'c=300kg/cm2

Sleyter Medina Cabanillas E.; Nataly Carrión Rabanal K. · Proceedings of the LACCEI international Multi-conference for Engineering, Education and Technology (2024) · DOI: 10.18687/laccei2024.1.1.458

Resumen

In this study, the use of andesitic tuff pozzolan was explored as a partial alternative to Portland cement in the production of mortar with a compressive strength of f'c=300 kg/cm2. The effectiveness of replacing cement with pozzolana in proportions of 5%, 10% and 15% was evaluated, analyzing its behavior under curing conditions at room temperature. 32 specimens were made and subjected to compressive strength tests after 7 and 15 days. Where it was obtained that after 7 days (M.Base=125.31 kg/cm2, M-5%Puz.=130.54 kg/cm2, M-10% Puz.=127.91 kg/cm2, M-15%Puz= 85.44 kg/cm2) and for 15 days (M. Base=235.51 kg/cm2, M-5%Puz.=279.87 kg/cm2, M-10%Puz.=158.56 kg/cm2, M-15% Puz= 127.54 kg/cm2). The results showed that by replacing 5% of andesitic tuff pozzolana the resistance increased by 4.01% and 18.84% at 7 and 15 days, respectively. In particular, at 15 days, the resistance reached 279.87 kg/cm2, demonstrating a significant increase compared to the standard sample. The use of pozzolana not only improves the resistance of the mortar, but also generates important environmental and social benefits. By reducing the use of cement, we reduce CO2 emissions and promote the use of local resources.
