Resumen
The metalworking industry plays a fundamental role in generating formal employment and contributing to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) worldwide. Among its most critical operational indicators, equipment availability is essential, as it reflects the effective time a machine remains operational relative to the total time available. Therefore, this study aims to increase this indicator in a metalworking company located in the district of Ate, Lima, which reported an availability rate of 79.9% in 2023. This low availability led to penalties for delays, loss of resale opportunities, and high corrective maintenance costs, resulting in economic losses of $48,110, equivalent to 5.23% of annual revenue. To address this issue, two key tools were implemented in the gear production line: predictive maintenance based on Internet of Things (IoT) technology and SMED (Single-Minute Exchange of Die). As a result, availability increased by 3.1 percentage points. The outcomes were validated through simulations developed in Arena software, confirming the effectiveness of the implemented model.
