Resumen
The objective of the research was to determine the in vitro antibacterial activity of the ethanolic extract of Beautempsia avicennifolia “vichayo” against beta-lactamase-producing strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The Kir-by-Bauer method was used for the formation of inhibition halos. It was evidenced that B. avicennifolia inhibited methicillin-resistant S. aureus and S. aureus ATCC 25923, while E. coli and K. pneumoniae strains were not inhibited. The average inhibitory halo was 14.4 mm. The ethanolic extract of B. avicennifolia “vichayo” has antibacterial activity in vitro against S. aureus strains, this effect being directly proportional to the concentration of said extract.
