IMPROVEMENT PLAN FOR THE ORGANIC SOLID WASTE COMPOSTING PROCESS AT THE MUNICIPAL PLANT OF LOS OLIVOS, LIMA - PERU, 2022

Josue Torres Joaquín H.; Lopez Nelson A. · Proceedings of the LACCEI international Multi-conference for Engineering, Education and Technology (2025) · DOI: 10.18687/laccei2025.1.1.1976

Resumen

The present study was carried out with the main objective of proposing an improvement plan for the composting processes of organic solid waste at the composting plant of the Municipality of Los Olivos, Lima–Peru, 2022. This is a quasi-experimental study, with a sample consisting of 20 direct workers from the composting plant. The methodology included an initial diagnosis of the process using techniques such as document review and surveys. The results reflect the current state of the composting plant at each stage of the process, and an improvement plan is proposed accordingly. A new composting plant is designed using the forced aeration method, with an infrastructure of 2,640 m2 staffed by six workers, a three-month treatment period for organic waste, and an increased treatment capacity with an annual projection of 1,039.68 tons. This improvement plan is positioned as a positive alternative for the treatment of organic waste in municipalities, enhancing composting efficiency, improving knowledge and management of solid waste, and promoting citizen participation.
