Improvement model in inventory management applying 5S and standard work in a storage center: Case study

Huamani F.P.A.; Salvatierra D.A.; Ugaz R.C. · AIP Conference Proceedings (2026) · DOI: 10.1063/5.0310414

Resumen

Economic growth in Peru has led storage companies to seek higher efficiency levels through engineering tools. This research analyzes storage company focused on improving its OTIF (On-Time In-Full) compliance rate, currently at 82%, below the industry standard of 95%. Data analysis identified deficiencies in the packing process due to unnecessary movements, errors in quantity verification, and material disorganization, generating estimated quarterly economic impact of $31,886 to $53,960. To address these issues, the 5S and Standard Work tools were implemented. The application of 5S increased compliance in the warehouse from 41.1% to 89.4%, while the use of Arena software for Standard Work simulated a reduction in packing time per operator from 72 to 52 minutes for every 12 orders. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of these tools in optimizing logistics processes and improving operational efficiency.
