Importance of a Psychological Approach to Disabilities Caused by Work-Related Accidents

Díaz Y.P.; Puga R.R.; Castillo Y.A.; Villa C.R. · Revista del Hospital Psiquiatrico de la Habana (2025)

Resumen

Introduction: Work-related accidents can leave deep physical and psychological scars on workers. Comprehensive care that addresses both aspects is essential for effective recovery. Objective: Support the importance of a psychological approach to disabilities caused by work-related accidents. Methods: A literature review was conducted at the Pediatric Hospital in Camagüey, from September to December, 2024. 48 articles were found. 25 that met the selection criteria were selected. Studies addressing the relationship between psychological and physical sequelae in patients with a history of work-related accidents were accepted. The research was divided into four stages: planning, design-management, analysis and development-formalization. Results: The findings indicate that many patients experience anxiety disorders, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder after a work-related accident. A psychological approach allows these problems to be addressed effectively through techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure therapy. Furthermore, the importance of creating a supportive emotional and social environment that facilitates adaptation and overcoming limitations is highlighted. Conclusions: Psychological care is essential for the rehabilitation of patients with after effects caused by work-related accidents. A comprehensive approach that includes both physical and mental health not only improves the patient’s quality of life, but also favors their reintegration into the work environment, promoting a more complete and satisfactory recovery. © Este material es publicado según los términos de la Licencia Creative Commons Atribución–NoComercial 4.0.
