Resumen
The objective of this research study is to propose a new 3D modeling course that would allow engineering students to perfect their spatial ability through the simulation of an augmented environment. The methodological approach is quantitative, hypothetical-deductive, causal correlational, and quasi-experimental. The study is conducted with a population of 250 students and a convenience sample of 38. Three tests are administered in the following dimensions: relationships, orientations, and visualizations. The results are validated using the k-20 Richardson, Shapiro-Wilk, Wilcoxon, and Mann-Whitney U tests. The results show substantial progress in spatial ability, with a 34% improvement, also reflecting a significant increase in dimensions. Students in the experimental group show greater progress in their spatial abilities compared to the control group, and they also performed better on their tests. It is concluded that there is a significant and direct correlation between using augmented reality in three-dimensional modeling and the development of visual spatial abilities among students.
