Resumen
Production planning in food companies faces challenges related to demand variability, input perishability, and coordination among production, inventories, and distribution. At Ottone E.I.R.L., located in Chimbote, Peru, the absence of a formal planning system caused mismatches among demand, production, and material supply. This study aimed to implement a material requirements planning system to improve the company's production and logistics management. The research followed a quantitative and applied approach, developed through a case study based on historical data on sales, production, inventories, and distribution. The procedure included root cause diagnosis, forecasting model evaluation, master production schedule development, material explosion through MRP, and the analysis of operational indicators. The results showed improvements in product availability, service level, and inventory record reliability. It is concluded that MRP is an effective tool for strengthening operational planning in medium-sized food companies.
