Resumen
This study examines the impact of the implementation of electronic payment methods on sales growth in local markets in the Villa El Salvador district during the period 2024–2025. The rise of digital financial technologies, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, has created new opportunities for commercial modernization while also posing challenges related to financial, technological, and educational barriers. Using a quantitative approach, structured surveys were applied to vendors in ten representative markets, and the data were analyzed through descriptive and correlational techniques using SPSS. The findings indicate a moderate and statistically significant correlation between the adoption of electronic payment methods and sales volume (Spearman’s ρ = 0.382, p = 0.003). Among the specific dimensions, transaction speed showed the strongest relationship with sales growth (ρ = 0.429, p < 0.001), followed by the general use of electronic payment methods (ρ = 0.339, p = 0.008). In contrast, the use of electronic money alone did not present a statistically significant effect (ρ = 0.099, p = 0.453). In conclusion, payment digitalization emerges as a key factor in boosting local economic activity, improving competitiveness, and promoting financial inclusion. This research provides empirical evidence to guide public policies and business strategies aimed at fostering the digital transformation of traditional commerce. © LEIRD 2025.All rights reserved.
